Whenever possible, even in most improbable conditions, I try to relax completely. How do I let go? I let go of all thoughts, emotions, and physical blockages of energy. In biofeedback practice, my colleague Dr. Dale Walters would use the phrase “give in control.”
My friend and teacher the qigong grandmaster, Li Junfeng, always instructs his students to “Relax!” “Relax!” as an essential pre-condition to doing the forms. One day I asked him, Teacher Li, what is the secret of “Relaxing?” “Loose” he replied, “No bones”, like a snake! I received a similar suggestion from my old friend, Master George Xu, while we trained in Golden Gate Park in the late 1990’s. In my book, How the Leopard Changed Its Spots, I include many colorful stories George Xu stories who in his youth trained the Red Guards. “Relax!” he would exclaim, but then he would warn, “But not tofu!”
