Shikantaza (quiet illumination)
This practice is called, “Shikantaza”. It is a Japanese Zen Buddhist meditation derived from China, often translated as “just sitting”. It involves sitting upright with your eyes slightly open, with no specific technique (mantras, visualizations, koans, etc.) or goals in mind, simply allowing thoughts and sensations to arise and pass without judgment or attachment to outcomes. The practice emphasizes being fully present and engaged with reality as it is, direct and uncontrived.
