KOKORO: 8 Easy Steps
Hello. I’m Julian Gresser, the co-creator of Kokoro—The Awakening App.
Here are 7 simple steps to begin exploring Kokoro. Let me show you how the app actually works.
YOUR INQUIRY
Step 1. ASK KOKORO:
Frame your question as a wisdom decision, choice, or proposed action. If you wish, you can include a few sentences of explanation.
We live in an Age where wisdom appears in short supply and out of fashion. And yet wisdom may hold the key to our species’ survival. Our purpose is to place in the user’s hands a valuable resource, Kokoro, as an aide in making wise decisions, and avoiding or recovering rapidly from costly errors in judgement. Discovery Question: How can I render Kokoro easy and fun to use, while helping users achieve practical outcomes?
Step 2. ESSENTIAL QUESTIONS:
If desirable, add a related Essential Question from the list. Once selected the text for that question will show on the Essential Questions box. (This is optional).
THE RESILIENCE MATRIX
In the 3 columns of buttons titled CHALLENGE, RESILIENCE and WISDOM – to scroll within a box section move your cursor over it and use the mouse wheel (or click on the vertical black scroll bar). To scroll the whole page down, move your mouse cursor to outside the colored boxes and do the same.
Step 3. CHALLENGE ISSUES
Select a few relevant items in Column 1, Your CHALLENGE, from the Resilience Matrix to ground and link your question to your important concerns (and/or write in your own challenge issue at the bottom of the button list). (at least 1 is required)
Step 4. RESILIENCE FACTORS
Select items from Column 2, Resilience Factors, which will deepen your wisdom inquiry. Select one or more Resilience Factor buttons. (required)
Step 5. WISDOM SOURCES
Now Choose one of the Wisdom Sources listed in Column 3 whose personal advice you might really value. If your desired guide is not on the list, simply type in a historical or fictional figure whose life and wisdom greatly inspires you. As you scroll down, you will see your choices in grey. Now Click the Just Click button to receive a reply. Note this may take up to 10 seconds.
NOTE: if the app does not generate an answer, the AI servers could be getting busy, so please just try again, but if the problem persists contact us bill@justclick.earth
(When the Kokoro text reply is shown you can vertically expand the text box by dragging down the bottom right corner of the text window. Click More if you wish to go deeper with your Wisdom Source. Copy if you want to save the response to your clipboard.
Please note that you can continue the same line of inquiry with different Wisdom Sources; or generate new questions and ideas stimulated by the dialogue. For example:
- How can I meet the obstacles, barriers, and disappointments ahead with compassion, humor, and flow?
The entire conversation can be copied. To start a new conversation, you must refresh your browser window to reload the app.
WISDOM PRACTICES
Step 6. WISDOM PRACTICES:
The next section of the app focuses on Wisdom Practices that may appeal to you. If you are unsure, you can ask Kokoro for guidance as to which practice is ideal for you. Just type your request as a Follow-up Question, as noted above. The key, of course, is to rely more and more on your own awakened intuition and inner wisdom. Let’s look at Resilient Negotiation as one class of practices.
(Once you select a single practice, it will link to a new browser tab with that Wisdom Practice. When you are done, you simply close that tab and return to the Kokoro app page. If you wish to look at more Wisdom Practices, simply select another, and it will open a new browser tab with the practice for you.
Step 7. THE MULTIPLIER EFFECT:
The more you cultivate wisdom and resilience, the more the benefits accrue to you personally, your circle of friends and associates, and your community. There are powerful ways to activate this Multiplier Effect.
After you have made progress in a few of the practices, you might explore creating synergy by combining them.
The simple act of Paying Forward is designed to produce a positive feedback loop: as you give freely away to help others in need, so the benefits return to you, quietly and often imperceptibly.
The Multiplier is enhanced by practicing in small groups of explorers, which will be supported by the various social media and other online educational programs we are offering.
CREATE A PLAN
Step 8. CREATE A PLAN:
You can Ask Kokoro to help you to create your own personalized plan. Simply reflect on the thread you have created by first posing your Essential Question, refined in The Resilience Matrix and cultivated by Wisdom Practices.
Now frame the key elements of your desired training and coaching program, select one action from the list, and click “Enter.”
Continue to test and enhance your Wisdom and Resilience by meeting practical challenges presented in your daily life’s encounters and negotiations.

TO START OVER:
To start over with a different selection of entries, simply go to the top of your browser window and click the circle arrow to refresh the page!
Note: If you are on a mobile device (e.g. cell), you will only see one column at a time and each list will be below the other. In this case, scroll down to make selections from each set (Challenges, Resilience Factors and Wisdom Sources).

Wisdom Practices
Challenging the Separation Hypothesis
This practice is so easy it is often undervalued. But give it a chance.
Wisdom flows from a Serene and Quiet Mind. But how can you quiet your Mind?
A simple practice. It may change your life. It has mine. It is possible. Try this.
Paying forward actually involves three related forms of connecting. A spiritual and energetic practice.
A simple practice conceived by Brother David Steindl-Rast, a Benedictine monk
Creative Reverie is a bridge between ordinary consciousness, the sub- conscious, and our higher consciousness.
Events that coincide in time and appear meaningfully related, yet lack a discoverable causal connection.
The simplest of practices: Discover 5 points of Beauty in each day. It is a testament and an expression of gratitude for the gift of life.
All this requires is to go out into Nature and observe not only with your eyes, but with all your senses; especially with your Heart.
This is a powerful practice that you can have fun validating for yourself. A basic practice with a variation.
Cultivating happiness wherever you are, under even adverse conditions, may hold a key to success, particularly in business.
Cultivating happiness wherever you are, under even adverse conditions, may hold a key to success, particularly in business.
Integral Resilience can be a seedbed for synchronicities, meaningful coincidences, and serendipities. There is a reciprocal mutually reinforcing relationship of Integral Resilience, Wisdom, and Synchronicity.
Clearing the Mind Practices
There are different kinds of listening and attending. In a busy world we tend to listen, partially, casually, with our ears and a mind diverted by many things.
It is a wonderful balm to step aside from the noise of the world, even for a few moments each day, and allow ourselves the gift of silence.
Wabi Sabi contrasts with the minimalist approach, defining its unique perspective on objects with an embrace of their imperfections and innate qualities
To cultivate an active curiosity to doubt when we see that we are obviously suffering in a prison possibly of our own making.
I find it a useful daily practice not to take myself too seriously.
Physical Resilience Practices
Whenever possible, even in most improbable conditions, I try to relax completely. How do I let go?
I have discovered that 5 Short Daily Walks are a powerful wisdom practice that interrupts the habit of long term sitting.
The Confucian-inspired adage before beginning the meal--hara hachi bu — is a reminder to stop eating when our stomachs are 80 percent full.
The Resilience ball requires us to focus on this moment, then the next, like slides in a slow motion movie.
Learning how to self-regulate and enhance Heart Rate Variability can be an enjoyable and fascinating practice.
Energetic Practices
The purpose of this practice is to align and integrate the power of Qi (in Japanese “ki’) with Unconditional Love.
The antidote to getting stuck is Flow. A major source of frustration for me, and no doubt millions of others, is the blockage of creative energies.
This is one of the most powerful Chinese basic energetic practices. I find it an instant way to create synergy with a giant tree.
Wisdom, Integral Resilience, and Synergy are emergent phenomena, which means they are non-static and part of a larger process.
You have an source of inner wisdom that is available to you whenever you seek its counsel. It is a natural guide.
What if it were possible to “step down” the promethean creative energy of the great composers or other musical geniuses from all traditions directly into our cells?
Trust in your deep and living Connection with the generative energy that affirms the gift of your life.
Resilient Negotiation Practices
This tool enables you in a few minutes to gauge your physical, emotional, perceptual, spiritual, and relational resilience.
Seeing the Big Picture is one of the attributes of Big Heart Intelligence. Seeing the Big Picture involves not only engaging your creative imagination.
The basic rule is that an effective Mission and Purpose is always in the world of the other party. It is not what you want.
The Action Log captures on one page the essentials of the Resilient Negotiation system. I urge that you prepare an Action Log in every negotiation that is important to you.
The central presumption of the Separation Hypothesis is that we are alone, separate, fragile, and vulnerable. This premise of Mind shows up in our attitude toward what we truly Need in life?
Every skillful negotiator seeks to understand the “Pain” of the other party. Pain is a source code of human behavior.
It is one thing to advise “Few Needs”, quite another to embody this precept. A prime manner in which this happens is how we unthinkingly Assume and Expect things.
Another way Need manifests in the unprepared negotiator is the untimely and unnecessary breach of your Integral Resilience Container.
Conserve your Resilient Negotiator’s Budget (Time (1) x Effort (2) x $$$ (3) x Creativity (4)). Paying special attention to your Negotiator’s Budget.
We cannot navigate wisely in the world today without acknowledging The Shadow Game and the Shadow Players.
In many negotiations the parties are not revealing their actual intentions, conclusions, or concerns, and it can be critical to go behind the mask.
Sun Tzu’s dictum, “Know Yourself, Know the Adversary” (i.e. the “Other”) is fundamental, but the great general philosopher doesn’t tell us how to know ourselves and how to know the other player.
Most people fear getting a “No” and that moves them into greater Need. In reality depending on how you negotiate it, a “No” can be your great friend and teacher.
Field Notes is where your Wisdom Practice meets the road. They enable you to track and to measure errors (“falling off”), wins, and recoveries.
This is the famous advice of the Zen Master Bukko to Hojo Tokimune, the young Japanese shikken or regent to the shogun.
In Homer’s Odyssey Mentor was a close friend of Odysseus, the wisest of the Greeks, whom Odysseus made the teacher and guardian of his son Telemachus, while Odysseus was waging war at Troy.
Meditative Practices
Transience is the central question of Buddhism and most other wisdom traditions.
Shikantaza is the simplest, in a way the most elegant Zen practice. It means simply sitting.
The classic error that Zen students make at the beginning is to try to “solve” a koan, as if it were some kind of intellectual puzzle.
A powerful stress remedy from a Tooist teacher.
Mu is the Ur-Koan, the foundation. This moment is Mu. Everything is Mu. Your and my essential nature is Mu.
All our concerns, worries, rivalries, fears, hopes, and all else in this rolling world are phantoms. What will put an end to this suffering?
This koan points us to our essential nature as the denominator in Yamada-Roshi’s formula. The key is to experience directly your essential nature.
Dizang asked Fayan, "Where are you going?"…
A monk asked Haryô, "What is the sharpest sword?"
The teacher said to the gathering, “If you get it the first time you hear it, you will teach the buddhas and ancestors.
Lingyun was wandering in the mountains and became lost in his wandering. He rounded a bend and saw peach blossoms on the other side of the valley.
Tôzan was unwell. A monk asked, “Your Reverence is unwell. Is there anyone who does not become ill?”
For those who want to explore more deeply, there is a wonderful collection of Koun Yamada’s teisho (Dharma commentaries) on the koans of the Blue Cliff Record and the Book of Equanimity.

The Multiplier Effect
Combining Different Resilience and Wisdom Practices
The quest for wisdom needn't be a solitary adventure. It is also a social enterprise you can enjoy in groups, teams, and entire communities.
How many people does I take to turn the tiller of our troubled world toward the light? Might a single act of kindness or generosity alter the course of a human life?
Combining different challenging separation practices and meditative practices can multiply the power of both.
The Mind does not exist in isolation, and engaging Energetic practices with Mental practices can amplify the clarity and focus of both.
There is such a thing as natural body wisdom which can become more accessible when Physical Resilience and Energetic practices are engaged together. Kinesthesiology wisdom is an outgrowth of this. Stamina and grace are siblings.
When the Body, Mind and Spirit are aligned and in sync, the faculties and presence of all three are amplified and produce a unique synergy of unity, grace and wisdom that makes your capacity for intution, discerning thought and focused action more effective.
Resilience in Negotiation becomes easier and more natural when abided with a clear and mind. Negotiating with difficult situations or people is aided by having a peaceful yet sharp mental discernment and intuitive acuity.
Different wisdom practices can work together to produce powerful multiplier effects, and the wisdom of selecting and combining different practices can be intuitively chosen. Be open to meaningful coincidences suggesting new combinations of practice for it can hold unforeseen wisdom out of the larger field.
Selections from the app "5 Minutes to Resilience" provide powerful and diverse pathways to empower wiser decision making responding to challenges being faced. Examples from the app show how multiple practices can work like chess pieces to better assure results and outcomes.
The Science and Power of Paying Forward—Introducing one of the great secrets to personal, organizational, and community resilience
The philosophy is based on the idea that small, incremental changes can lead to significant improvements over time. The same principles apply to cultivating personal resilience and wisdom.
